Veterans Walk of Honor

Envisioned as a quality and fitting memorial to all local veterans from all branches of service, from July 4, 1776 perpetually into the future, this brick-paved walk with its central fountain and landscape improvements project for our Armory grounds will give a deserving tribute to our community members who gave part of their lives, or all of it, no less, in order to safeguard and preserve all of the freedoms that we all continually enjoy. Particular thanks goes to our Washington County Veterans Service Commission, which has stepped up in support of this Veterans Walk of Honor project with an $8,000, more or less, donation for 50% of the budgeted funding needed to build the attractive central square and fountain midway in the walkway between Front Street and the Walking Path and near the Lock House. Isn’t this GREAT! In recent full-membership meetings, both our Post 64 and the Marietta VFW # 5108 unanimously passed motions supporting this most worthwhile community endeavor. Also, many thanks to all of you individual members who have supported this project by attendance, work, etc. at various city council and city administration public and private meetings, especially our own (very busy) Commander Larry Myers. And, of course, thanks to our Mayor, Michael Mullen, his staff and Marietta City Council for their help, too.
